Cross: (Odcdm. Tiger Hambuhren x Odcdm. Crowborough)
Intro: Odontocidium Tiger Crow 'Golden Girl' is an intergeneric hybrid consisting of Odontoglossum and Oncidium. It grows in a wide range of temperature conditions from warm to cool. The flower spikes emerge often twice per year and are colored in yellow and burgundy. The species behind the cross include Oncidium tigerinum, Onc. leucochilum, Odm. crispum, Odm. pescatorei, Odm. hallii, Odm. harryanum, and a host of odontoglossum hybrids.
Light: Low to medium. 1000-2000 footcandles. If this plant receives too much light the leaf tips will begin showing blackish spots. This is not abnormal for many intergeneric hybrids in the oncidiae group. Keep shadier in the summer and give it more light in the winter.
Temperature: Winter nighttime temps should range from 55 degrees to 64 degrees. Daytime temps should range from 68 to 88 degrees year-round.
Humidity: 50% or higher is required. Humidity trays are helpful in maintaining proper humidity levels around the plants. Misting can be done in the morning as long as the plant leaves are dry by nightfall.
Water: Use rain water reverse osmosis, or distilled water for best results. Water thoroughly being sure water is coming out all the drain holes of the pot. Water as the plant approaches dryness but do not allow it to become bone dry between watering. The pseudobulbs can be your guide. If the new pseudobulbs shrivel, this is a sign that you are not watering the plant enough.
Fertilizer: We highly recommend using Green Jungle Orchid Food, especially formulated to work with rain, distilled, reverse osmosis water or water low in alkalinity. Fertilize with Green Jungle every time you water if plants are planted in bark. Be sure to flush the mix with clear water only once per month to prevent fertilizer salt build up. For plants in moss or mounted on slabs feed every third or 4th watering as the moss holds a lot of nutrients.
Or use
GrowMore 20-10-20 Ureafree for municipal or well water. Use at the rate of ½ teaspoon per gallon. If using GrowMore with rain, distilled, or reverse osmosis water, add back in 5 - 10% municipal or well water to supply the necessary calcium and magnesium. Fertilize every other watering in the summer and every third watering in the winter.
Another fertilizer offered is: GrowMore 6-30-30 (Cymbidium and bloom boosting formula).
Flowering: This plant can flower more than once per year and can throw multiple spikes when mature. Each spike can have up to 25 or more flowers per spray. The flowers are approximately 2 ½ - 3" in size. The lip is a brilliant yellow with burgundy markings. The petals are deep golden yellow with chocolate spotting. They last for 2-3 months.
Repotting: Repot this plant in the spring to early summer months after flowering. Utilize a mix which drains quickly yet retains moisture evenly throughout. We recommend a medium grade bark mix using Douglas fir bark, charcoal, perlite, with the addition of poultry grade peat moss or coconut husk chips. Keep dry for the first week to 10 days after repotting.
