Cross: (echinolabium 'Smell Me Not' x carunculatum)
Intro: This is a very nice bulbo hybrid utilizing two of the best eichinolabium and carunculatum. This hybrid gets the best of both parental attributes with large flowers and good color. Most bulbos have a strong carrion odor but this hybrid isn’t so bad and if you put your nose right up to it then you will get a waft of Latex or slightly rotted apples. This plant can bloom for a couple of years on one spike!

Light: Low to medium from 500 to 2,000 footcandles. East windows or artificial light culture works well also.
P.L. Lights systems are a great way to provide artificial light to your orchids. See our P.L. Lights page for more information on this great product we offer.
Temperature: Intermediate to warm with winter day temps from 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit and nights of 58 to 65 degrees. Summer temps can be 10-15 degrees warmer.
Humidity: This plant likes a relative humidity of 50 percent or higher.
The use of humidity trays or room humidifiers is beneficial.
We offer two products that can help increase humidity levels. The humidity tray offered in black or white, and the Mist Maker.
Water: It is best to use rain, distilled or reverse osmosis water. Water as the potting medium is just approaching dryness but avoid allowing the mix to become bone dry between watering.
Overwatering can cause several problems such as root rot and infectious bacteria/fungus in the potting medium. One product we offer that can help these problems if caught at an early stage is Phyton 27 bactericide and fungicide.
Fertilizer: We highly recommend
Green Jungle Orchid Food, especially formulated to work with rain, distilled, reverse osmosis water or water low in alkalinity. Fertilize with Green Jungle every time you water.
Or, use
GrowMore 20-10-20 Ureafree for municipal or well water. Use at the rate of ½ teaspoon per gallon. If using GrowMore with rain, distilled, or reverse osmosis water, add back in 5 - 10% municipal or well water to supply the necessary calcium and magnesium. Fertilize every other watering in the summer and every third watering in the winter.
Another fertilizer offered is GrowMore 6-30-30 (Cymbidium and bloom boosting formula).
Flowering: This plant can produce flower spikes at any time of year. The spikes emerge from the base of the growth and will reach about 12 inches in length before producing flower buds. The flowers are large and can be up to 9 inches from top to bottom. They are fairly long-lasting and individual spikes can bloom for 2 years continuously. The flowers are colored in yellow with mahogany stripes or markings and have a deep ruby colored lip that is hinged and moves with the wind.
Repotting: Repot in the spring months using a coco peat or coir mix for best results. This plant can be divided when there are 8 or more growths allowing 4 growths per division. New Zealand sphagnum moss also works well as a potting medium.
We offer several different types of potting medium. Here are direct links to what we believe to be some of the best potting mediums available for orchids: Orchids Limited bark mix, New Zealand sphagnum moss, coco husk, coco peat, sponge rock, charcoal, tree fern fiber, and cork slabs for epiphytic plants.
