Description
This rare magnificent epiphytic species from Madagascar blooms very large, unique flowers. A slow growing orchid that can take up to 10 years or more to reach maturity, this species is extremely rare in cultivation. These plants grow best in moist material with plenty of air circulation, such as New Zealand sphagnum moss, or tree fern fiber paired with a slotted pot. They can also be grown mounted on slabs, mimicking their natural growth habit. Allow the potting mix to just dry between watering. The roots love to ramble and will get quite long. Be sure not to let these plants stay dry for a prolonged period, as this can result in sunken areas on the leaves. The large 4 - 6" flowers are fragrant at night once they have been open for a few days. You can expect this plant to flower once to twice per year.
