Description
Known as the Lady of the Night Orchid for its enticing perfume in the evening hours. Hailing from Mexico and Central America, this hardy species tolerates cool to warm temperatures and favors a bright windowsill. Perfect for beginner orchid growers! Recently split out from B. nodosa by taxonomists, citing the bigger, broader foliage and larger flowers. Allow the potting mix to become just dry between watering. The flower spikes emerge from the base of the inside of the leaf where it joins the supporting stem.
This cross is a result of a (4N) tetraploid crossed with another seed grown grandiflora both selected for their large flower size and shape. Many of these have been flowering with 5” or larger flowers which is exceptional. These are some of the best flowers of the nodosa lineage to date. These tend to flower twice per year in spring and fall but can flower randomly at other times as well.
