This species is native to Colombia and Venezuela where it grows in pine forests, usually on the sides of trees in dense clumps or mats. This orchid can be identified by its 3" long stems covered in alternating, thick oblong leaves. Although typically olive green, the foliage will take on a purple coloration when grown in bright light. These plants become very nice specimens over time and flower twice per year, with the flowers lasting for several months. Mist when the mount on which it is growing is just dry. The larger plants shown in the 2 photos of the specimen are of the actual awarded plant which received a Certificate of Cultural Excellence (CCE). It had over 1200 flowers at the time! The plants offered are divisions of the original plant.
