This species is native to Brazil where it grows in a wide range of areas across several states. These can be found growing on rocks as lithophytes and epiphytically in trees. This is a very tolerant orchid and will grow in a wide range of temperatures, making it a relatively easy species to grow and flower. This is a sib cross of two of our best werkhauseri varieties. The flower photo is of the 'Blue Moon' parent. The 'Blue Giant' parent has the same coloration, but with larger flowers. We have seen as many as nine flowers per spike on plants grown to specimen size! Please note: The second photo is of the first two plants from this cross to flower.
When Listed In-Spike: These plants flower in late April or May. We prefer to ship these in-sheath when the buds are in development, as this prevents damage to the buds and flowers in transit.
