Description
Gyokudennomatsu is an easy variety of yellow-flowered goeringii to grow. Like all colored goeringii, it is best to cover the buds with an 8" long tube made out of aluminum foil to keep the bud from light while developing. This will bring forth the strongest color.
These plants are 'seasonal' growers, meaning they take cool temps, lower light and drier conditions in the winter and warm, bright, moist conditions in the summer (growing season). The goeringii generally flower in February or March and are pleasantly fragrant.
Our current batch of goeringii are growing in kanuma, a type of fired earth often used in bonsai mixes. This, and akadama, are the primary potting substrates used in Japan and we are finding the best growth using this material.
All of our goeringii are grown in the plastic Asian 'Shunran' pots.
