Description
This wonderful species is native to a small corner of the world—the Moluccan Islands of Indonesia. These islands, also known as the “Spice Islands,” were once the world’s only source of highly sought-after spices such as nutmeg, mace, and cloves for centuries.

In the wild, this species is said to prefer cooler conditions, though we’ve had excellent success growing it in our intermediate to warm greenhouses.

We’ve staked these plants upright for easier placement due to their tall growths. However, they also thrive when mounted and allowed to grow pendulously. Some growers prefer to pot them in hanging baskets, where the growths can hang gracefully over the edges. New shoots typically start upright and gradually cascade as they mature if left unstaked.

As seen in the photos, these plants can become quite tall over time, producing clusters of flowers along the sides of the canes. Mature specimens can bloom heavily all around the growths, creating a spectacular display similar to the one pictured in the clay pot.

3.25" pot are expected to reach blooming size by the fall of 2026 or spring of 2027
5.5" pots are blooming size and should flower in late 2025 to early 2026.
