Description
This form of Epiphyllum has been thought to be a species but is most likely an unknown hybrid. We received a cutting of this plant in the 1970's from Sandy Murphy who was an ardent orchid grower in the Edina area of the twin cities.
This plant has got to be one of the best of the Epiphyllum's as the flowers are very large being in the 10-12 inch range and colored in an absolutely hurt your eyes brilliant magenta color that's hard to stare at for very long. These plants are easy to grow and flower but do require night temps to be around 60 Fahrenheit at night in winter in order to develop flower buds. Allow the potting mix to just dry between watering but when you see flower buds developing along the leaves keep the potting mix slightly wetter to avoid bud blast. Limited availability.
