A two step breeding technique was used to create a plant that has foliage similar to 'Seikai' and flowers that are dark pink as opposed to the light pink of 'Seikai'. The first step was to cross 'Seikai' with 'Kouyou'. 'Kouyou' is an Ascofinetia hybrid that ranges from pinks to purples to deep yellow/orange/red tones. One of these hybrids was then self-pollinated which brought out the recessive genes of Seikai in some plants. This is a division from one of the 'Seikai'-like plants. This is truly an oddity and rarity amogst the Neofinetia hybrids. The top photo is the actual plant for sale. As with many Neofinetia hybrids, the exact lineage of 'Kouyou' is unknown.
