Description
This beautiful, compact species is native to Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, and Brazil.
Aganisia cyanea grows in the wet lowland rainforests of northern South America, often found on the lower trunks of large trees. In its native habitat, seasonal flooding can submerge the plants for part of the day—sometimes for weeks—without apparent harm.
Being a moisture-loving plant, we grow them in sphagnum moss and water them frequently. They prefer warm conditions and grow well alongside Phalaenopsis.
This species also hybridizes with Zygopetalum, producing compact, easy-to-grow intergenerics with colorful flowers.
*Note: These plants often can get wrinkled/pleated foliage from getting too dry between watering as new growths develop. Spots on the older growths first develop brown spots as the new growth and flowers develop and eventually turn yellow and fall off. this is normal for this species and some if its hybrids.
