Description
Large, well-established divisions from our collection of this wonderful species. Mature plants carry pairs of broad, pleated (plicate) leaves atop rounded, “goose-egg” pseudobulbs. In season, arching sprays of ~2" (5 cm) fragrant, waxy flowers cascade over the pot rim; each inflorescence can carry many blooms and puts on a striking display for roughly 2–4 weeks. OrchidWeb
Origin & habit
C. asperata is widespread across Malesia and Papuasia—including Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo, Sulawesi, the Moluccas, Java, the Philippines, New Guinea, the Bismarck Archipelago, and the Solomon Islands. In nature, it grows mostly as an epiphyte in humid lowland to montane forests (often along rivers and in swampy or limestone-influenced sites) from near sea level to roughly 1,900–2,000 m.
Potting: Performs well in open, moisture-retentive mixes (we use New Zealand sphagnum moss).
