Description
**We were able to obtain some more single and double-growth plants this season! These all have buds starting and should flower by mid-June.
Cypripedium reginae, known as the Minnesota state flower, has a wide geographic range throughout North America. The plants we are offering have been collected and rescued from wild areas slated for road construction or other development with special permits from the Minnesota Department of agriculture. Our plants all have the relevant permit numbers on the plant labels.
For those of you located in Hardiness Zones 2 through 7a, we recommend outdoor, in-ground growing of these orchids. Cypripedium's grow in moist areas and are often found in ditches or in seepage's, so it is important that the root system be in a potting mix or soil that retains moisture and doesn't dry entirely too quickly. As winter approaches, be sure to mulch the plants with 3" to 5" of leaf litter such as oak leaves after the first frost. These orchids typically lose their leaves between August and October, as they go dormant in fall and winter. The plants we have available are very limited and will arrive potted in a mix of cocoa peat and perlite/grit. We will enclose a care guide with your shipment.
Please note: The plants we offer have large root masses and are truly established plants! We have few left, and the growth count is correct with sometimes more coming along. Grow them like a perennial in your garden with frequent watering and they will do just fine!
