Maxillaria schunkeana 'Black Velvet'

An incredible species that blooms with deep, black flowers that arise from the base of the growths and last about 4 weeks! Native to the rainforests of Brazil in the state of Espirito Santo, where it grows in dappled sunlight enjoying a wide range of temperatures. This orchid typically flowers in the fall, but does occasionally bloom in the spring as well. We have found these grow best in New Zealand sphagnum moss, watering when the media is lightly damp to the touch.
