Description
A striking and powerfully fragrant Mexican species—some consider it a form of Stanhopea tigrina, though nigroviolacea is noted for slightly smaller pseudobulbs and darker flowers. One of the largest-flowered and darkest Stanhopea, with blooms that last about 3 days but often appear in multiple spikes throughout the summer (typically July to September).
Easy to grow and incredibly rewarding, this is a must-have for any Stanhopea collector. We start ours in solid pots and move to baskets once they near blooming size (usually a 6" or larger basket). Below is a list of availability with predicted time to bloom.
Select seedlings are oryzalin-treated, potentially yielding tetraploid plants with even larger, more substantial flowers.
