Description
This is an excellent orchid for growing in the Kokedama style, as Maudiae-type Paphiopedilum hybrids thrive in moss and dry evenly in this setup.
The saucer is not included, but the idea is to place your Kokedama on a saucer and fill it with water so the moss ball can absorb the moisture. The saucer should never have standing water—if it does, that means there’s too much moisture. Simply pour off any excess, and the moss ball will naturally dry out. Avoid allowing the moss ball to completely dry out, as it will become hydrophobic, and you'll need to soak it in a deeper container of water in order to re-hydrate the moss.
You’ll likely need to replenish the water about twice per week. These lady’s slippers will grow and re-bloom beautifully in this setup, and we recommend refreshing the Kokedama moss every one to two years.
*We ship these plants out in bud, before the flower opens. The current plants should open by the end of October to early November. In addition, these are seed-grown, and the flower pattern/spotting/shape will slightly vary from plant to plant.
