Description
This is one of the nicest primary Paph. hybrids to be imagined. The foliage is outstanding with a light white/ green background overlaid with darker blue green markings. The flower spikes are just beginning to emerge from the leaves as of early Feb. 2021
This cross was made using acmodontum as the parent, which is probably the best parent used as the pod parent. The flowers offer the best of both parents and this hybrid exhibits great vigor making it an easy one to grow and flower. The flower stems are around 12 to 18 inches tall with beautiful well shaped flowers that have a green dorsal with a lighter edge and nice wide spoon shaped petals that are deep magenta with a lighter green center. The pouch is a green color towards the bottom of the pouch progressing to a rose/ mahogany color at the top. The flowers are long lasting and are about 2.5-3" in size. Neal Amundson, who created this hybrid in 1986, was a chemical engineer and applied mathematician. He was also the chair of the department of chemical engineering at the University of Minnesota and, later, was a professor at the University of Houston, Texas. When Orchids Limited's founder Jerry was a young man and just beginning to collect orchids, he got to know Neal and bought 3 orchid plants from him to present to his Wife Yoko on the birth of his first son, Jason.
