Description
These modern day crosses are the finest examples of the "King of the Paphiopedilums", with flowers reaching 30 centimeters in width! The large flowers are stunning, with vivid dark colors and large, tall stems that can bear 3 to 5 flowers.
This species is native to Borneo where it grows on Mount Kinabalu. It was first imported by Frederick Sander, often referred to as the 'Orchid King', who had one of the most amazing orchid nurseries in England. Heinrich Gustav Reichenbach described the species in 1892 and named it after Sander's friend, Ferdinand de Rothschild, who built the amazing Waddesdon Manor in Buckinghamshire, England.
