These seedlings are from a selfing of Paph. stonei 'Fernwood'. This plant is a tetraploid plant with larger than normal flowers. The leaves are also larger and thicker in substance. Chromosome counts of the seedlings also indicated that the seedlings had a higher chromosome count of which most were tetraploid (52 chromosomes). Some were even pentaploids (64 chromosomes). (A normal diploid Paph. stonei has 26 chromosomes).
