Rarely available and not in many collections this is a very important species in the history of Phalaenopsis breeding. Native to Southeast Asia including Borneo and mainland Malaysia, as well as Java and other parts of Indonesia. This is the spectacularly large-flowered grandiflora variety of amabilis. We have been line-breeding this species for several generations from plants that were sent from the far east in the 1990's.
This species is in the genetic background of nearly all of the modern large-flowered Phalaenopsis. This is an opportunity to own a piece of orchid history! The flower display is magnificent! There is something about species and their natural looks that never disappoints or changes with fads. This plant is found most often growing on tree trunks or branches with long arching sprays of stunning white flowers.
