Description
In orchids, finding the perfect red is a challenge. Here, we have a fine example of one of the absolute best pure red, and perfectly shaped Phramipedium flowers in our collection. Award quality, but it has never been to a judged event. Similar to Phrag. Jason Fischer, Phrag. Red Wing is a mix of besseae and sargentianum, with some tetraploid besseae mixed in. The besseae 'Rob's Choice' 4N AM/AOS is the best besseae in our collection and has produced extremely high quality results. Deep velvety red flowers that are 10 cm in width make for a very impressive display. This division has a good root system and has been potted in the Grodan Growcube mix.
This cross was originally made in 2008, and first flowered and was registered in 2013. Out of all our Red Wings, 'Really Red' is one of the best. While they can flower at different times of the year, January through March seems to be their most consistent blooming season. Larger plant divisions, like this one, can produce spikes that will sequentially flower multiple times. In some cases, 6+ months! Each flower lasts about 3 weeks and drops while it still looks fresh, while the next bud develops.
Here is a rare opportunity to own a masterpiece of Phramipedium breeding!
