Description
Named after John Linden, who discovered the species near the Colombia–Venezuela border by Lake Maracaibo in 1843, this unusual Phragmipedium is truly one of a kind. Distribution-wise, it is native to Venezuela, Colombia, Imbabura, Pichincha, Tungurahua, and Chimborazo provinces of Ecuador and Peru. Unlike all other lady slipper orchids, the pouch has mutated into a third petal, giving the flower a unique form. Botanically, it is thought to have evolved from Phrag. warscewiczianum (formerly wallisii).
Mature plants can produce petals over 20 inches long, with up to 4–5 flowers on a single spike. First-time bloomers typically carry 1–2 flowers, but as plants grow larger, they become increasingly impressive in display.
For cultivation, grow in a moisture-retentive medium such as fine bark with sphagnum, and keep evenly moist at all times—never allow the mix to dry out. Bright, indirect light and good water quality (rain, RO, or distilled) will produce the best results.
We anticipate this batch to flower by the spring of 2026.
