Description
Native to Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, and Ecuador at elevations of 600–1700 meters, this species is easy to grow and tolerant of cool to warm conditions. It prefers clean, low-mineral water and should be kept evenly moist at the root system at all times, either through frequent watering or by standing the pot in a shallow dish of water (no deeper than 1/2"). Typically a fall bloomer, it is also capable of flowering at any time of year.
The photo shown is of the hinksianum variety; however, the flowers of this variety may be darker, as the parental name suggests (though not black!).
*This batch is in low spike as of 11/20, and expected to develop and flower by January.
