Description
This is a massive flowered tigrina (syn. nigroviolacea) with extra-thick substance and incredible fragrance. The color is quite different than the standard species, and perhaps it is a mix of the standard type and the albescens type. These are selfing of a jungle collected plant from Mexico in the late '70s. It has a compact growing habit compared with other types of this species.
The typical bloom season for these is between June and August.
2022 Stanhopea Species Offering Notice This spring of 2022, we are offering potted, rooted back-bulb Stanhopea species that were divided from our collection plants during the summer of 2021. These divisions are established but have older leafless bulbs which function to fuel the emergence of new growths and flower spikes. These orchids are potted in coconut husk chunks in plastic azalea pots. The flower stems can grow over the rim or through a drain hole. However, they will flower the easiest in a basket packed with sphagnum moss. Both coco husk and sphagnum moss, along with the orchid baskets are available on our website. Water and fertilize heavy in the summer for maximum results!
