This species is native to India, Burma, and Thailand. An amazing orchid with one of the closest flower colors to true blue! This is an exceptional tetraploid (4N) cross, line-bred for generations by Orchids Limited, starting with small plants from flask in 1978 that we imported from The Bangkrabue Nursery in Thailand who were the collectors for the king of Thailand and had a royal warrant.

When in bloom, this orchid displays deep ultra marine-to-blue flowers that deepen in color and reach peak size and a few days after opening. These flowers are 4" to 6" across and can flower for 2 -3 months .The variety Supra, Lord Rothschild's variety was described in the late 1800's in The Orchid Album:

"This is without a doubt the finest dark-colored variety of this, the Queen of the East Indian Orchids that we have of yet the good fortune to see. The sepals and petals are much broader … and of greater substance, the ground color being cobalt blue, distinctly and beautifully reticulated with deep ultramarine-blue: the lip is also of the same deep color."

The seedling size is expected to be blooming size within 2 to 3 years. Near flowering size plants should flower in 2025 to 2026. To promote the fastest progress, grow in warm temperatures, medium to bright light, and high humidity with frequent fertilizing. These plants are from our 6th and 7th generations of line-breeding. The orchid you receive may have had some leaf tips trimmed to reduce tip dieback at the seedling stage. We will pull the best possible plant for your order! Limited number of plants available.
