Known as 'The Giant Vandopsis', this orchid will grow into a large specimen over several years of good culture. The flowers of this species very thick and have the scent of green banana! Native to Southeast Asia, these orchids grow in regions that experience profuse rainfall in the summer, followed by a winter drought. This species has evolved with thick, succulent-like leaves as an adaptation to this winter rest. This orchid also has a prop-root-like habit, and will push itself upwards out of the pot within a year or two. Grow warm to hot in semi-shaded light in a well-draining mix. Water and fertilize often. Many people grow in baskets with some clay balls and large chunks of charcoal. If you are in an area with good humidity and daily watering, you can grow in an open basket as well. This is truly an amazing orchid that is fantastic for a Vandaceous collection.
