Brassavola grandiflora

This outstanding species is native to Mexico and Central America and is famously known as the Lady of the Night Orchid for its captivating clove-like fragrance that fills the evening air. Some growers still consider it to be the tetraploid form of Brassavola nodosa, as the typical form produces noticeably smaller flowers.

One of the easiest orchids for beginners, this species is exceptionally vigorous and blooms freely with minimal effort. When grown in high light, the foliage often develops attractive purple or reddish pigmentation, which is a natural response that does not harm the plant. In South Florida, it also performs beautifully when mounted on trees.
