A beautiful species from Columbia, responsible for countless hybrids, and also considered a highly collectible species by many enthusiasts. The aurea form typically has larger flowers than standard dowiana, including a different scent. Cattleya dowiana aurea likes less light than most Cattleya, particularly in the summer months. In winter months they go semi-dormant and need less water without fertilizer. Foliar feeding is acceptable and good practice during winter.
This plant thrives best when the conditions are warm. We have good luck growing them in sphagnum moss, but pine bark mix is also a great alternative.
