Cattleya labiata
(var. rubra x var. tipo)
A cross between the rubra and tipo forms, resulting in flowers with deeper pink coloration than typical tipo plants. Compact-growing compared to many standard Cattleyas.
A historic species that helped spark the Victorian orchid craze, Cattleya labiata was discovered and shipped from Pernambuco, Brazil, by William Swainson in 1817. William Cattley first flowered the plant in England in 1818, and John Lindley formally described the species in Collectanea Botanica in 1821.
Plants typically produce a sheath during the summer, with flowers emerging in the fall.
