Chopped coconut husks are excellent for certain orchid culture, and is the most economically priced potting media available. It acts like a reservoir holding water and releasing it evenly as the mix dries out. Long-lasting (3 years) with a stable pH of 6.3 - 6.8. Although the product is pre-washed, we do recommend soaking at least overnight to remove excess salts and tannins from the husk.
From our experience, these orchid genera do best in the coco coir chips (amended with charcoal and perilte and some bark is optional as well):
Cymbidium, Vanda, Dendrobium & Cattleya.
From our experience, we do not recommend using this product on Paphiopedilum, Phragmipedium or any other type of mineral sensitive orchid like cloud forest miniatures/species etc.
To create a mix, blend with 25% spongerock and 10% charcoal.
