Cycnoches Cafe Au Lait 'Black Gold' x The Grinch

This new hybrid was created with the goal of producing rich, deep red to mahogany-colored flowers. As this is a seed-grown batch, individual plants will vary somewhat in color and pattern, but all are expected to produce impressively dark blooms. These should also produce a sweet fragrance.

This batch is expected to flower in August.

Native to the forests of Central and South America, Cycnoches are epiphytic orchids with a distinct annual growth cycle that includes a dry winter dormancy. It is completely normal for the foliage to yellow and begin shedding during or shortly after the flowering season. In fact, leaves often start to yellow while the plant is still in spike, before the flowers have even opened. By fall, the foliage will have dropped completely, leaving only the dormant cane.

During dormancy, keep the plant on the dry side and do not fertilize until new growth emerges in the spring, signaling the start of the next growing season.
