Description

This Madagascan beauty, Angraecum sesquipedale, blooms just once each year in winter and earned its famous nickname, Darwin’s Orchid, from naturalist Charles Darwin, who studied many plants in the wild. This species—along with many other Angraecoids from Madagascar and Africa—is moth-pollinated and releases its fragrance only in the evening hours.

To preserve and highlight the flowers’ natural scent, we will use LED candlelight to create a dim, nighttime atmosphere. Our largest specimen on display is over 20 years old!

You’ll also have the opportunity to experience a variety of other nocturnally fragrant orchids, selected specifically for their evening perfume.

A short presentation will cover the history and significance of Darwin’s Orchid, followed by sales plants of Angraecum sesquipedale and related species.

This year promises to be an even bigger show than last, with the events space now complete and more Darwin's orchids in flower than ever before! It will be a sight to see!
