Eulophiella elisabethae

Eulophiella elisabethae was named for the first Queen of Romania, Elisabeth Wied (1843 -1916), who was also a writer under the pen name of Carmen Sylva.
This impressive species is native to Eastern Madagascar and the Comoros Islands. The foliage is quite different from roempleriana, with much tighter rhizomes (about 3 inches between growths), making it a more space-manageable plant. Specimen plants can produce multiple spikes and put on a spectacular display.
One advantage of this species is that it can flower well in an 8-inch container, unlike roempleriana, which typically requires at least a 12-inch container when mature.
These plants grow best with consistently warm temperatures, ideally daytime highs in the 80s to low 90s °F and nighttime temperatures in the 70s °F. While we do not grow them quite that warm ourselves, they still progress and perform well for us under slightly cooler conditions.
If grown well, we expect these to reach mature size by the summer of 2028.
