This is the yellow-flowered form of Max. tenuifolia ‘Yamada’ AM/AOS, an awarded clone. This species is native to Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica. It is well known for its flowers, which have a strong coconut fragrance both day and night.
This orchid is especially rewarding when grown to specimen size, as it can produce many clusters of flowers.
In Latin, tenui = fine and folia = foliage, hence the species name tenuifolia.
An easy species to grow, it is tolerant of cool to warm temperatures and reliably blooms in the spring.
Current plants for sale mature and will flower the spring of 2027. Some may still have a few old flowers holding on (if you order during the summer of 2026) as they can last for up to 3 months.
