This is the yellow-flowered form of Max. tenuifolia ‘Yamada’ AM/AOS, an awarded clone. This species is native to Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica. It is well known for its flowers, which have a strong coconut fragrance both day and night.
This orchid is especially rewarding when grown to specimen size, as it can produce many clusters of flowers.
In Latin, tenui = fine and folia = foliage, hence the species name tenuifolia.
An easy species to grow, it is tolerant of cool to warm temperatures and reliably blooms in the spring.
This batch includes both the standard form and the tetraploid (4N) variety. The 4N plants are notable for their larger pseudobulbs and fuller, significantly thicker flowers. This is the first time we have offered them, and they are very limited in quantity.
Current plants for sale are just beginning to open their flowers as of 5/6.
