Native to several countries in Southeast Asia—including Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Hainan China, Borneo, and the Philippines—this species is also known as the foxtail orchid for its long, arching spikes densely packed with ¾" to 1" flowers. Plants typically bloom in January or February, and the display lasts an impressive 2–3 months from the first blossom to the last. The flowers are pleasantly fragrant, offering a strong, refreshing floral scent. The foliage is equally attractive, with thick, wide leaves featuring natural striping.
Grow in medium light and water when just dry, except during flowering when they appreciate slightly more moisture. Fertilize year-round. These plants thrive in coarse bark mixes with well-drained pots, but can also be grown in open Vanda-style baskets if watered frequently and given good humidity.
Please note: It is common for this species to show some foliage discoloration or develop “sooty” mold—a black residue on the undersides of the leaves caused by sap. This can be easily wiped away with a damp paper towel.
