Stanhopea tigrina var. albescens

It should be noted that we aquired this species from Mexico in the 1980's as tigrina. Obviously, the color pattern and size of flower were quite different. Shape wise, tigrina was the closest species and we branded it as albescens. It is possible this could be an un-described species, or even a natural hybrid. The original parent had larger flowers and darker colors than the selfing offspring plants. The selfings are more pastel in color with sweet fragrance, and can produce several flower spikes per season once specimen size.

This orchid blooms for us in the late summer to early fall. A must have for any Stanhopinae collector!
