Description
This blend is made from Pinus radiata pine bark combined with charcoal and perlite to provide the excellent aeration and drainage that orchids require. We use premium Kiwi bark sourced from New Zealand.
For volume reference, a 5-liter bag contains enough mix to fill approximately six 5" azalea pots, while a 10-liter bag will fill about twelve 5" containers.
Small Mix
This finer blend is ideal for seedlings and moisture-loving orchids such as Phragmipedium. We typically use this mix for orchids grown in pots up to 4" in size. An exception is Bulbophyllum, which performs well in this mix even when grown in larger bulb pans.
Medium Mix
A standard, medium-grade bark mix suited for commonly grown orchids including Phalaenopsis, mid-sized Cattleya, Paphiopedilum, and Oncidium. This versatile mix works well for most orchids in containers up to 6–7" in size.
Large Mix
A medium-coarse blend recommended for pots 6" or larger, or for orchids that benefit from faster drying conditions when grown in smaller containers.
