Description
We have an abundance of Catasetum hybrids that have various colored flowers. We cannot provide all the photos of each type, but the variants will have the species or hybrid name for you to choose from. These are very fun because they have trigger pollen, in which once you touch the trigger hair in the middle of the flower, it will instantly shoot and stick pollen onto your finger. Over the years, we have made many customers scream and jump by making them touch the trigger (without telling them what it does, of course). However, once you set the pollen off, the flower life will be shortened. On average, these flowers will last about 3 weeks. The hybrids can often flower twice per year. when listed in spike these may have pseudobulbs and no foliage as they can start shedding their leaves when flowering. during flowering the flowering period or after these finish blooming the leaves will start turning yellow and fall off. sometimes there are no leaves when flowering. during the leafless stage keep drier at the roots watering only every 2-3 weeks without fertilizer. It is ok if the psedobulbs shrivel a bit but if they seem to keep shriveling water with clear water and they will plump back up. Once new growths emerge at the base of the pseudobulb and new roots are about an inch long resume watering allowing the potting media to approach dryness before watering again. When grown in moss fertilize every third time you water. If potted in bark fertilze every time you water but once per month water with clear water to avoid fertiluzer salt build up.
