Vanda coerulea (1/2 alba cross)

This cross was created with the goal of producing larger, rounder alba flowers. It represents the first step in a two-part breeding process and produces light coerulea-colored blooms, as the alba gene is recessive.

The flower pictured is the first plant from the cross to bloom. It displays a beautiful pastel coerulea coloration on flowers that are smaller than typical coerulea supra forms, due to the alba influence in the background.

The plants we are offering are blooming size and may flower anytime from summer through fall of this year. Those that do not bloom this season should be expected to flower by next summer. In the next generation, when these plants are crossed back to an alba, approximately 50% of the offspring should revert to pure alba.

This species grows well in bright light and tolerates cool to warm temperatures. A notable advantage of this cross is its vigorous growth, outpacing both parent plants.

*Note that these plants will come in 3.25" to 4.5" pots. The volume of each pot is nearly identical and the plants are all blooming size.
