Vanda Violeta

A remake of this primary cross, but this time using the coerulea var. supra, which will result in larger flowers with more tesselation and darker colors due to the tetraploid genetics from the Vanda coerulea supra.

This hybrid is also recognized as x amoena, a natural hybrid between coerulea and tessellata. We believe this is the first time the hybrid has been re-made with the tetraploid supra version of coerulea (3rd photo). Although this hybrid is typically fragrant, we have not flowered any with fragrance yet, and that may be because the coerulean (non-fragrant) is a 4N, thus having a stronger impact on the hybrid.

The first registered history of this plant was in 1897, making this a true classic remake! If you are in a humid and hot area, you can grow these bare-root in a pot or basket. They also do well in a bark mix if growing in a home setting.

Both tessellata and coerulea are compact blooming size plants, we are expecting these to be booming size once the foliage reaches 8 inches in length with 6 or more leaves.
