CITES export Appendix I Species (Paphs and Phrags)
Nice large plants that are flowering size.
Intro:This is the albinistic form of the species that is quite rare in nature. This plant is native to India and grows on dolomite limestone cliffs or on
grassy banks protected from hot sunlight. It receives warm temperatures up to 90 degrees F during the summer months and cooler air in the fall and winter months. Humidity remains high at all times of the year. This is an easy growing plant that makes many growths during the summer months. Its flowers are long lasting and are unusual in appearance. Paph. fairrieanum has been very useful in hybridizing creating new and unique hyybrids. These are strong plants and are not inbred like many of the earlier offerings of this species.Light:750 -1500 foot-candles is best, or slightly more than for phalaenopsis. Keep
shadier in the summer when the temperatures are higher.Humidity:50% or above.Water:Water at least twice a week with rain, distilled or reverse osmosis water that includes fertilizer that has calcium and magnesium in it. Some municipal water has limestone in it to prevent pipe corrosion. Well water may also have adequate calcium and magnesium for this plant. Water as the mix approaches dryness.Fertilizer:As Paph. fairrieanum is found growing on limestone in nature, water or fertilizer with calcium and magneium is essential. When growing with municipal water or water with higher pH, use
GrowMore 20-10-20 Ureafree. Either one should be used at the rate of one
teaspoon per gallon of water.
We also highly recommend
Green Jungle Orchid Food, especially formulated to work with rain, distilled, reverse osmosis water or water low in alkalinity. Fertilize with Green Jungle every time you water, flushing with clear water once per month to prevent fertilizer salts build up.Flowering:This plant usually flowers from late fall to March. The flowers are about 3 inches in heighth and colord in white and green, they are also long
lasting. Keep moist when the buds appear.Repotting:Spring is best when new growths begin after flowering. Use a medium grade bark mix for pots larger than 3 inch and small mix for any pots 3 inch or under.
