Native to Mexico, this species grows epiphytically atop rocks and attached to trees or small bushes. In the fall through winter, it sends out a terminal flower spike that blooms with up to 18 bright purple flowers. After completing its flowering cycle, a new growth will begin to emerge from one of the plant's side nodes.
While you should water generously during the growing period, you can allow this plant a relatively drier period during the winter season when the mature growths are in bloom.
