Description
This is a really beautiful miniature orchid in the Cattleya family known as rupiculous (rock growing) Laelias with parents being native to Brazil. The parent plants grow in fissures or in detritus that has accumulated in fissures or depressions on granite outcrops. These plants are often exposed to direct sun during the day or may be slightly shaded by weeds and short, scrubby bushes, The temperatures can get up into the 90's Fahrenheit during the day but the strong sun raises moisture from the valleys below and it can rain or mist in the evening cooling the surrounding rock and providing moisture to roots. This hybrid is a real gem with deep golden yellow flowers and the whole plant with flowers is only about 6" tall. We have been growing these plants for several years and they now have multiple growths as in the photos. Only a few are on offer. Best grown in sphagnum moss or New Zealand tree fern and clay pots or slotted plastic pots. Allow the potting material to just dry between watering. When in flower keep slightly more moist at the roots. The last photo is of the currently available plants.
