This fairly uncommon species from Mexico produces large 4-inch flowers that are stunning! Commonly referred to as Encyclia mariae, this species was reclassified along with 100 other species into the genus Prosthechea in 1998. A great compact grower, this species thrives in medium to bright light when watered as the potting mix just dries out. This plant does well in pots with a medium size bark mix or mounted on slabs. This batch is growing in 3" pots and all of these have an excellent root system. Expect the first bloom spikes to emerge in the spring or summer of 2025. Some may flower in the summer or 2024. The flowers last for at least 3-4 weeks or more. Keep slightly drier at the roots and cut back on fertilizer during winter months. Watch the pseudobulbs and if they start shriveling water more frequently.
