This orchid is a very hardy Mexican species that tolerates cool to hot temps (sometimes found in Guatemala and Honduras).
They are typically found in the wild on oak trees, pine forests, and can also grow as a lithophyte on rocks. These typically flower in late December to January.
On our website you will see several types of anceps to choose from. Many are from similar parents and will have a similar flower. When you order from this general Laelia anceps product page we will simply choose the most healthy plants and send those to you. See the images for example. The flower shape and color can slightly vary from plant to plant.
We offer two options for these plants.
1. Bare root. This is because every year in pot they send out about 2 to 4 growths over the edge of the pots. At this point we cut them off and offer them bare root.
2. We can pot them in a bulb pan prior to shipping. L. anceps will root into the new pot very quickly and typically develop a new root system within a few months.
They are also excellent slab growers, and in the right environment (mostly southern California) they can be mounted on trees.
