Dendrobium lichenastrum is an Australian epithyte and lithophyte with branching rhizomes that produce succulent, close-set, cylindrical pseudobulbs. Yellow flowers with stripes maroon to dark orange arise from the base of the pseudobulbs, and on a mature plant they seem to bloom off and on throughout the year. These plants are very well-suited to growing mounted, or in shallow pots in a free-draining mix, as they prefer to dry quickly after watering. D. lichenastrum will thrive in a range of temperatures, and should be grown in high light. This is a surprisingly fast-growing orchid once established, and they are tough, as they are superbly well-adapted to drought conditions.
