Description
A newer species discovered in 1993. Dendrobium tobaense was discovered in Northwest Sumatra on the northeast shores of Lake Toba. This particular form is the giganteum type with much larger flowers. This nigro-hirsute (black haired) plant has incredible flowers that have a light green background overlaid in darker green striping. The complex lip has 2 horns at the top pointing towards the column. The lip is colored in cream with red orange striping and has a pointed tongue that has an orange base and a yellow tip. The flower also has a very nice fragrance and is long-lasting. This plant can flower more than once per year. The current plants are nice good sized ones and are shown in the last photo as of 09/21/2021
One of our favorite Dendrobium species hands down! Grow in warm to intermediate conditions and medium light. Water as the potting mix approaches dryness.
