This plant is very easy to grow and can be grown and propagated just like an African violet by leaf cuttings, but foliage doesn't suffer when wet. What makes the 'Whirlpool' clone unique is the beautiful dark green foliage. The leaves can cover the potting mix so watering from the bottom with the pot standing in a saucer may be more successful. Allow the water to be fully taken up and the mix to dry or approach dryness between watering. This plant can tolerate a wide range of temperatures but in order for it to flower well it needs to be below 65 degrees Fahrenheit at night. This plant can take cooler temps without any problems. Humidity and free-draining potting mix are the important things so a peat-based mix with extra perlite or small Growstone is best. The flowers last well and emerge in the late fall to winter months.
