Description
Stapelia gigantea is a succulent species in the family Apocynaceae, native to south eastern Africa. They are very hardy growers tolerant of medium to bright light levels. We grow them in coco-peat with perlite and charcoal mixed in. They will grow in almost any type of well drained potting soil. The flowers can reach 10 to 16 inches across, making for a huge star fish-like blossom! These flowers can produce a foul smell as they attract flies to pollinate them. It does not stink up an entire room, but perhaps it is best displayed somewhere with good ventilation when flowering :). These plants can grow to a very large specimen size if desired!
