The largest of all the Neofinetia, the Amami Island form is a fantastic variety and a must-have for Neo lovers. Native to Japan, Korea and China, with a deep cultural history in plant horticulture, this plant is an entire category of its own.
Unlike most other Neofinetia, the Amami Island form can have larger foliage and flowers. The leaf span can range from 8" to sometimes 12" across. The flowers are typically white, but can also express hints of pink in the flowers as well. These are very fragrant, somewhat similar to jasmine. The fragrance is present 24 hours, and is stronger in the evenings. There are very few flowers in the orchid world that have fragrance 24/7.
For the 2025 season, we have a wide variety of sizes available. The 2.25" smaller plants will most likely flower in the summer of 2026, but all other sizes should produce flowers between the summer and fall seasons of 2025. A unique feature about the Amami is that very large, multiple-growth plants have been known to sometimes flower in both the summer and fall seasons. Additionally, if your plant does not flower by July, it still has a chance of flowering by September to November at the latest. The 5" extra large plants are genetically the biggest growers of the batch!
